Director of Programs
What does your job entail? My role involves creating and managing the calendar of activities. I’m responsible for hiring talent, selecting and implementing engaging crafts, coordinating outings, and organizing a variety of activities including card games, religious services, and movie screenings. I also plan the socials, compile and produce the monthly newsletter, and oversee the garden club and the library committee.
What sparked your desire to work in a senior living community? I love spending time with my senior friends; chatting, making music, and going to theater. I also love being creative so I really enjoy planning socials and crafts.
Did you go through any special training or education that helps with your current role? I have spent many years as a director of theater which has given me a lot of skills in scheduling, communication and leadership.
What is the best part of your workday? When I get to spend time chatting with residents.
What is your favorite resident memory or story? I feel so incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to listen to poems written by residents. They will stay with me in my heart for a long time.
What sets your programming apart from the competition? We have an amazing team that works together to give residents the best experience. We really care about making treasured memories for our residents.
How do you spend weekends? My weekends are all about spending time with my puppy, so that he gets the strength to go another week without me from 8-5. Sometimes I also see my husband and kids.
Do you have any skills or talents that most people don’t know about? I have been trained as a mime, a hypnotist, and an actor.
Flashback to when you were 10 years old. What do you want to be when you grow up? A mail carrier, an actress, or a teacher.
Tell us one thing about yourself that would surprise your residents? Sometimes I play guitar and write music. Ask me to sing my Shorewood Jingle for you. I’m still working on the dance.
